A person was shot to death in the middle of a Chattanooga street last night.

One witness described the victim as a teenage boy who looked like he had been playing basketball.

The shooting on North Willow Street would be the city’s first homicide in nearly a month.

A new report lists the most dangerous cities in Tennessee.

Cleveland ranks 15th on the list.

Nashville comes in 7th, and Athens is sixth.

Chattanooga is listed as the 5th most dangerous city in Tennessee. We have around one violent crime for every 1,000 people.

The top four are Jackson, Crossville, Dyersburg and Memphis.

The Hamilton County Jail is now using a digital system to track inmates.

Instead of using pen and paper, officers will now conduct inmate checks using a handheld device to scan a chip mounted near cell doors.

The sheriff says that by the end of the year inmates will wear wristbands to be scanned in and out of various parts of the jail.

The system cost about $80,000 dollars, plus annual maintenance fees.

A Catoosa County teenager accidentally shot and killed his stepbrother.

The sheriff says 17-year-old Austin Stapp was playing with a revolver he thought was unloaded.

That’s when he accidentally shot his 16-year-old stepbrother in the gut. Paramedics declared the boy dead at the scene.

The sheriff’s office does not plan to file charges.

A Calhoun Georgia woman is arrested after authorities say she left a toddler in a car for four hours.

Authorities described 55-year-old Debra Lane as a caregiver. She told officers she dropped two children off at school and didn’t realize a third was still in the car. She called authorities when she discovered the 2-year-old.

The child was taken to Gordon Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

Lane is charged with cruelty to children and reckless conduct. She remains in jail.

A missing Chattanooga girl has been found.

17-year-old Serina Miracle was missing for almost two weeks.

Police say she was found safe and is back home.

A farmer in Middle Valley has been killed in a Bush Hog accident.

70-year-old Thomas Ables died when a tractor he was driving apparently overturned while he was mowing on a hillside.

Authorities say it was likely a tragic accident.

An inmate at the jail in DeKalb County Alabama has died from an apparent suicide.

Authorities say 33-year-old Kevin Daniel Hancock harmed himself in his cell and was taken to a hospital where he died two days later.

An investigation has been ordered.

Hamilton County Schools plans to add a fifth assistant superintendent.

Rick Smith says the new assistant superintendent of innovation will help implement technology into the classroom.

The job should be posted this week and a background in education is not a requirement.

The East Ridge Police Department is finally getting laptops in patrol cars.

The department has ordered 14 computers and hopes to buy more soon.

The laptops will let officers file reports from the field without having to drive back to the office.

A new rule book has been approved for Chattanooga city employees.

All personnel rules are being stripped from city code and replaced with the handbook.

The book can be amended by city administration without permission from the city council.
