George, the Aldabra giant tortoise (Aldabrachelys gigantea) is drinking trough his nose.

This species of tortoises has this unique feature which enables it to drink from very shallow puddles, as showed at the end of the Video https://youtu.be/XFhDx2QMSU4?t=1m22s

"George" and 20 of his friends such as "Big Daddy" and "The Rock" can be visited on Île aux Aigrettes in Mauritius. The tortioses were introduced to the island by the Mauritian Wildlife foundation.

After both native species of giant tortoises were extripated by the first settlers and voyagers, the ecosystem was inbalanced. Some trees were struggeling, since they lost the main seed disperser. To help the critically endangered white ebony tree (Diospyros egrettarum) and other native plants, the giant tortoise from the seychelles was introduced to Mauritius. It's the only giant tortoise species from the pacific Islands that survived the slaughter and it was willing and successful in filling the gap.

Nevertheless, this old buddies rovering the island have a long story and are very diverse. Some are shy, others are agressive or love to cuddle.
