mauritius map Salamandra mating behaviour

This video was taken in Tel Dan in Israel. It shows the mating behaviour of the endangered Salamandra infraimmaculata. The female is on top and the male is stimmulating her, by pushing her from the bottom. He places a spermatophore which she finally takes up at 1:32 by lowering her body.

The females give birth to life larvae during the rainy saison in Winter (November until March). They migrate to the spring area streams of the Dan river. She will afterward mate with one or several males and carry the larvae until the next rainy saison in one year.
